Expository Essay

Diana Spencer in many people’s eyes was only a Princess, but in reality, she was so much more. Diana was a mother, a sister, a friend and overall a great woman. When Diana was growing, she had a tough life. Throughout the years, people came to know Diana as a kind thoughtful woman, who always thought of others. In many ways this is the truth, Diana usually put her sons, her husband and the public ahead of herself. On the rare occasion, Diana would put her self ahead of others, even her sons. One time was in the nineties when a biography about her was published, the biography told all the secrets, about her marriage and about how bad it really was. After it was published, Diana and Charles got divorced. Overall Diana was a great princess with flaws, like every one.

From birth Diana had, had a complicated life. When she was born, her parents had desperately hoped for a boy to inherit the title “Earl of Althorp.” When Diana was born her parents were disappointed because they already had two daughters. When Diana was six her parents got divorced, it was especially rough on Diana. When she was young, her parents never gave her the love and care that she craved. When she was older, her father remarried a woman she hated, throughout her youth and into her adulthood. When she married Charles, she expected happiness beyond happiness, but she received nothing close, she was actually very unhappy, so unhappy she actually attempted suicide several times and became bulimic. The only time Diana was actually happy, was when she was with her sons, or when she was doing her charity work. People always suspected Diana to be a peaceful happy woman, but Diana was completely opposite of that.

Diana was a great woman who died excessively young. In her life, she gave to many charities. One of her greatest charitable contributions was her time; she donated her time visiting hospices, hospitals, old folk’s homes, and institutions. Diana made people very happy and grateful when she visited. On occasions, she’d even take her sons to visit the people. She thought her sons needed to know the world outside the palace. Besides her local charities, she’d go to foreign countries on behalf of Red Cross. After her divorce, she donated all her Royal clothing to a charity. Diana loved to do charity work; it was one thing she enjoyed most in her life.

Diana and Charles marriage was very unhappy. Diana was always sacrificing what she wanted to make Charles content. Charles wasn’t a supportive husband, he constantly criticized Diana. One of the main causes of their divorce was Camilla Parker-Bowles, Charles' old girlfriend. Charles would tell everything to Camilla. Many people thought Diana and Charles had a great marriage, until the end, but in reality, their marriage was never good.

Many public perceptions made about Diana were true. The perceptions of Diana as a person were true; she was kind and loving. The perception of her marriage, however, was completely wrong. Overall, Diana was a great woman who always thought of others before herself.
